If you’re thinking of transitioning to an Electronic Medical Records system, now is the time to do it. You may be eligible to receive up to $44,000 in federal stimulus funds if you adopt an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in 2010.
Here’s the background: the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includes a Medicare financial incentive for eligible medical practices that adopt and are “meaningfully using” a certified Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system by January 1, 2011. Payments are made over five years, starting with $18,000 the first year.
And there’s an additional incentive: in the future, physicians who do not adopt certified EMR systems will be penalized through a reduction in Medicare payments.
